Jeromy, awesome words, man. I needed to hear this today. I recognize how often I fall into the trap you describe.

Yes. ;-)

Yea, they are similar. But if pressed, I think I actually prefer “trust” as it is less loaded with Christianiese. For me, trust within this context mirrors courage; courage to be honest; courage to ask real questions; courage to listen to real answers; courage to be open to risk; courage to follow where Jesus is leading regardless of the consequences; courage to enter into the unknown; courage to walk with each other in humility; courage to fail; courage to succeed; courage to let go of my need to control others and the outcome; courage to dream together; courage to listen, really listen…to name a few.

I think the fruit of trust is a loosening of our fears and our tendency to control.

I think that only in the presence of trust, safety and love can such conversations take place.

Which part is "well said"? The part where I say I would defer to you? :P

You say "faith and trust." Could you expound on what faith would be in that context? I am assuming that you think faith and trust are much the same thing, but perhaps not? I like how Luther defines faith as trust - sorta falling back into the arms of Christ. I like that.

Well said. I think humility, faith and trust are all deeply related.

I like what Mark said, "Great social and spiritual movements germinate when a few isolated people find one another, share deeply, and dream out loud about a different and better future."

I would defer to you.

...but if pressed, I would add that this would first require lengthy discussions, teachings, prayer and training in humility. I am becoming more and more convinced that humility is a trait severely lacking in the church today (and I know I am right). We mirror the world and it's ways in far too many respects. Part and parcel to taking up our cross daily, I think, is laying down my own agenda and saying as a group and individuals, not our will, but thine be done.
